We're not in Kansas anymore Toto... ok, I live in Los Angeles, but compared to Tokyo, it's Kansas.
Train time table in de-mittened hand ( a must if you're traversing the country), camera,
backpack, yep I'm ready... It's March, and for those of you interested, it's cold. A tad bit jittery
traveling solo, but it's the only way to go, independently free to do whatever, whenever, wherever.

first week in Japan... and it's absolute submersion, absorbing the culture... hopping bullet trains, buses, and cable cars...
lodging with families who also prepared my meals and treated me like a 4th cousin (hehehe). oh how I grew to love
the tatami mat. Rural Japan outside of major cities like Tokyo is less modern and actually much more traditional than
expected, but was thrilled to experience. From the Japanese alps, to the coast, to the gorgeous countryside, they have a
unique way of living that is very different than your typical average everyday (my American) life...

my version of Japan. 2004.
